Curt Reynolds, GoldenOpps Board of Directors President

Recently I was asked, “How has volunteering impacted you?” Well, that’s a good question!

Immediately, I reflected on my own volunteering over the years serving on Salvation Army advisory boards, at my church,  and now as a volunteer leader for GoldenOpps. And the answer came to me rather quickly.

My volunteering opportunities helped me strengthen my faith in the Lord, and to put my faith into action, which is exactly what Jesus told us to do in the Great Commission when He said, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…” in Matthew 28:19.

Yes, He wants us to “Go” and do things for the Kingdom, and not just let others go instead of us.

Sure, we are busy attending church, Bible studies, and other church related activities, and we also need to spend time with family and friends. But while these are good things, they do make it easy for us to stay insulated within our own Christian communities. I stayed insulated for years, but I also realized that my faith was not growing. So, I asked God to help me change that.

And He did. The Lord gave me the courage to step out in faith by serving others outside of my insulated world. I started by volunteering, which started putting my faith into action. I also learned to trust Him in more areas of my life. It wasn’t easy and I did fall short from time to time, but I’m so very thankful for His perfect love that put me back on track and helped me continue to volunteer. And He was with me, just as He promised in Matthew 28:20!

Now as the president of GoldenOpps, I have the privilege and a much greater responsibility of being able to pour LIFE into other men and helping them grow in the in the Lord. Yes, this can be challenging, but it’s mostly rewarding, and I know that the Lord is always in control. And this drives me to continue to volunteer, and prayerfully trust Him with the outcomes.

At GoldenOpps, volunteering has a great impact on our success and growth. Everyone, except our Executive Director is a volunteer, and we’d be sunk without them. But recruiting new volunteers is even more challenging. We continue to trust God to bring us more volunteers to help us grow this ministry for His glory and to help even more men experience true life transformation through Jesus Christ. But we need help to do this. Maybe your help?

GoldenOpps has many volunteer opportunities, even if it’s just a few hours here and there. We always are looking for more mentors, but we also could use your help in the following areas:

  • –  Administrative Support (scheduling, e-mailing, bookkeeping, running errands, etc.)
  • –  Updating our social media (GoldenOpps Website, Facebook, etc.).
  • –  Marketing, communications, and creative assistance.
  • –  Event Planning and Set up for our Annual GoldenOpps Recognition Dinner.
  • –  Volunteer Recruiting & Coordination, and more!

We also are looking to expand our Board of Directors with men and women who have a solid relationship with Christ, and who are willing to faithfully serve this ministry with compassion, joy, oversight and guidance. (Board Members can serve virtually if necessary).

In closing, I ask and encourage you to step out of your comfort zone by volunteering to serve the Lord through the ministry of GoldenOpps as we strive to carry out The Great Commission.

Please feel free to contact Ellen Blathers, our Executive Director at or via phone at (414) 375-9234 about volunteering. We appreciate your consideration.
