2024 GoldenOpps Kindness Challenge

Ephesians 4:32, ““Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God has forgiven you.”

Just recently, I turned on the television only to hear a national news network blaring “breaking news” that was nothing more than one negative event after another. It’s always hard to hear all that, and as usual I just tuned it off and tried to forget it. But then I came to the realization that I needed to do a better job of giving people hope. I needed to counteract the negative by demonstrating kindness to others through what I do and what I say. Even if it’s just little acts of kindness each day.

But then I thought, “This needs to be bigger than just me doing this! This needs to be all of us, especially since we have Hope in Christ! We need a full year lathered in kindness from us to everyone else! There should be no limits or boundaries to our kindness.” As Christians, we are called to be “salt and light” to this dying world, and therefore we all need to be showing and speaking more kindness out of the abundance of hope and life that we have as Children of the Most High God!

“Kind words are like honey. They are sweet to the spirit and bring healing to the body.” (Proverbs 16:24)

Have you ever noticed that people are surprised when you say or do something nice? Why is that? Maybe they’ve learned to not expect anything except negative words or selfish actions from others. Maybe they see so many bad things happening all around them that they truly are surprised when you do something nice. Maybe you’re the first person in a long time who has done anything nice or kind for them. And maybe, if we all demonstrate a little more kindness, people will find hope, or at least ask us where we get our hope.

And this is where the 2024 GoldenOpps Kindness Challenge gets started!

Step 1. GoldenOpps is challenging you to be kind!

Nothing big or major is required. Just smiling at people is a good start. Or say “Hi” to a stranger, tell them to have a nice day, or say “excuse me” if you must go past them. Maybe you can hold the door for someone or offer to let someone go ahead of you in line. Offer to carry someone’s groceries, or to help fix or do something for them, or even just offer to answer questions (even dumb questions).

Just do something kind and unexpected when the opportunity presents itself!

Step 2. Be kind to everyone!

No exceptions. Even be kind to your family members (sometimes it’s hardest to be kind to those closest to us!). Practice kindness globally and without limitation. Even when you might not feel like being kind, be kind anyway. Remember God’s unconditional love for you and be kind to every person as you see them through that love.

Step3: Make Kindness A Habit!

Be kind until it’s a habit, until it’s part of who you are. The rewards of being kind aren’t just for those to who you are kind. There is also joy for the giver! I believe that once being kind becomes a habit that you’ll be happier too!
